INTERMEDIATE MANNERS
Intermediate Manners is designed to begin preparing your dog for the AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) test and focuses on developing calm, well-mannered behavior. It’s ideal for those looking to take their dog’s manners to the next level and for those who may be interested in preparing your dog to become a therapy dog or to take the CGC test.
Each week, you’ll receive specific challenges and exercises to help you and your dog work steadily toward the CGC goals. We’ll concentrate on key areas such as:
- Leash manners with more distractions
- Reliable recall with distractions
- Begin working on Stay and Place
- Continue to work on polite greetings
- CGC test requirements and behaviors
Be prepared to put in the work, this course is structured to help you succeed through consistent practice and guidance!
Class Details
Duration: 6 week course (meets the same day and time each week)
Class Length: 60 minutes per session
Prerequisites: Completion of a basic skills class or instructor permission

ADVANCED MANNERS/CGC PREP CLASS
Canine Good Citizen (CGC) Preparation Course – 6 Weeks
Prepare your dog to become a confident, well-mannered companion in our 6-Week Canine Good Citizen (CGC) Preparation Course! This class is designed to help dogs and their handlers develop the skills needed to pass the American Kennel Club (AKC) Canine Good Citizen test, a nationally recognized program that promotes responsible pet ownership and polite behavior at home and in the community.
Over six structured weeks, we will build reliability, confidence, and real-world manners to set you and your dog up for success.
What We’ll Cover
This course focuses on mastering the 10 skills required for the CGC test:
- Accepting a friendly stranger
- Sitting politely for petting
- Appearance and grooming
- Loose-leash walking
- Walking through a crowd
- Sit, down, and stay on cue
- Coming when called
- Reaction to another dog
- Reaction to distractions
- Supervised separation
Final Week: Official Testing
The CGC test will take place during the final class session (Week 6). Teams who successfully complete all 10 test items may submit their paperwork to earn the official AKC Canine Good Citizen title.

Prerequisites
Dogs should have completed a basic obedience course or demonstrate foundational skills (sit, down, stay, and basic leash manners). Dogs must be comfortable working around other dogs and people in a group class setting.
